The Dosha card is the first card most people look at on the Vedic dashboard. It answers three questions practitioners are asked every week: Am I Manglik? Do I have Kāla Sarpa? When is my Sade Sati? — and it shows its working, so you can explain the answer.
The Dosha card — Manglik, Kāla Sarpa and the Sade Sati tracker.
Where to find it
The card sits in the bottom-right corner of the dashboard in Vedic mode, on the Natal tab, with a profile open. (On the Transit tab the same slot shows the Lunation card.) It's the default for that area; if you've chosen Yogas at a Glance there instead, switch back in Settings → Customize Dashboard.
The header shows Dosha with the profile's name in a pill, and the subtitle Vedic affliction flags. Without a profile the badges read "—" and the card asks you to Select a profile.
Manglik (Mangal Dosha)
A chart is Manglik when Mars occupies the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house counted from any of three references — the Lagna, the Moon or Venus (whole-sign houses). The tile shows one of three states:
| Badge | Detail line |
|---|---|
| No (muted) | Mars clear of houses 1/2/4/7/8/12 |
| Yes (red) | Mars in dosha house from Lagna, Moon — only the references that trigger it are listed |
| Cancelled (green) | Cancelled — followed by the rules that cancel it |
The six cancellation rules
If any one of these holds, AstroWatch shows the dosha as cancelled (parihara):
- Mars in its own sign or exalted — Aries, Scorpio or Capricorn.
- Mars in an exempt sign for its house — counted from the Lagna: 2nd house in Gemini or Virgo; 4th in Aries or Scorpio; 7th in Cancer or Capricorn; 8th in Sagittarius or Pisces; 12th in Taurus or Libra.
- Mars in Leo or Aquarius.
- Jupiter with or aspecting Mars — Mars in Jupiter's sign or in the 5th, 7th or 9th sign from it.
- Moon with Mars — the Chandra-Mangala combination.
- Jupiter or Venus in the Lagna.
Hover the badge to see all six rules for this chart, each ticked ✓ or crossed ✗ — the clearest way to show a client why their Manglik dosha does or doesn't stand.
The badge tooltip lists every rule with ✓ or ✗.
Kāla Sarpa
Kāla Sarpa is present when all seven grahas, Sun to Saturn, lie on one side of the Rāhu–Ketu axis. The tile reads Yes (red) with the type and Rāhu's house — e.g. Takshaka · Rāhu in 7th house — or No with Grahas not fully hemmed by Rāhu–Ketu.
The type is named after the house Rāhu occupies from the Lagna:
| Rāhu in | Type | Rāhu in | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | Ananta | 7th | Takshaka |
| 2nd | Kulika | 8th | Karkotaka |
| 3rd | Vāsuki | 9th | Shankhachūda |
| 4th | Shankhapāla | 10th | Ghātaka |
| 5th | Padma | 11th | Vishadhara |
| 6th | Mahāpadma | 12th | Sheshanāga |
Only the full yoga is flagged: a chart where one graha sits outside the axis (sometimes called partial Kāla Sarpa) shows No.
Sade Sati
Sade Sati is Saturn's roughly 7½-year transit across three signs: the 12th from your natal Moon sign, the Moon sign itself and the 2nd from it. AstroWatch finds every passage from just before birth to about age 96 — usually three in a lifetime — and lets you walk through them.
- The pill next to the title reads Active now, Past · 2009 or Next · Mar 2032.
- ‹ and › step through the passages (2 / 3), and the dots at the bottom jump straight to one.
- Under the title: the years, your age during the passage, and its status — Completed, In progress or Upcoming.
- A three-part bar shows the phases, each as long as it actually lasts: RISING (12th from Moon), PEAK (over the Moon) and SETTING (2nd from Moon), with their start dates. The current phase gets a teal border and a NOW tag.
- The footer says Currently transiting, Passage complete or Begins in 5y 4m, and when the passage ends.
Step through past and future passages with ‹ › or the dots.
Good to know
- All three checks use the sidereal natal chart with your saved ayanamsa.
- Some traditions add an age rule to Manglik (the dosha fading after a certain age); AstroWatch does not apply it.
- Kāla Sarpa type names vary slightly in spelling between sources.
