Report Manager

Report Manager — called Written Reports before v2.0.0, and still the same dialog under a clearer name — turns a chart into readable prose on the spot: not a fixed block of canned text, but a report composed live every time you open it, drawing on AstroWatch's own interpretation engine to match, score and order what your chart actually presents. It can read the natal chart alone, or a moving ring against it — transits right now, a solar return, a secondary progression — depending on what's loaded on the wheel. Chapters are shown as reorderable cards you can hide, reorder and save as a layout, and that same layout is what an exported PDF follows (see Export Natal Report and Predictive Reports).

Opening it

Tools → Report Manager — a Pro feature, and it only opens a dialog if a profile with a natal chart is currently loaded; otherwise a small prompt tells you to open one first. This works from the Expanded Chart View as it always has, and — new in v2.0.0 — from the Dashboard too.

Chapter cards

The dialog's static header sums it up: "Chapters mirror the exported PDF — drag to reorder, toggle to show/hide, then apply." Every chapter — Chart Signature, each life-area theme, and (for a predictive ring) the new forecast chapters covered in Predictive Reports — is its own collapsible card in a reorderable list, rather than one long scrolling page:

1. Drag handle

   Grab a card anywhere on its handle and drop it into a new position — the exported PDF's chapter order follows whatever order you leave the list in.

2. Chevron, numbered badge, title, section count

   Collapse a card down to its header, or expand it to see every ReportSectionRow inside — heading, subtitle, a small pill naming the interpretation source it came from, its strength score and bar, the matched markdown body, and any add-on notes.

3. Show In Report toggle

   Turns a chapter off without deleting it — a hidden card dims to about 45% opacity and stays right where it was in the list, so you can find and re-enable it later instead of losing your place.

4. Chart Signature is pinned

   The opening chapter has no drag handle and no toggle — it's always first and always shown, the one constant across every layout.

Natal or predictive

A Report type selector only appears when the Expanded Chart View's wheel has a second ring enabled alongside your natal chart — pick Configure Wheels first (see Multi-Wheel & Bi-Wheel) if you want the predictive option available. Once a moving ring is active, the selector's second option relabels itself to match it, and the report switches from reading your birth chart alone to reading that ring's live contacts against it. Only some ring types have a predictive voice authored yet:

1. Current Transit

   Reads as Transits now — today's sky against your natal chart, with exact-hit dates on every contact that has one.

2. Planet Return, targeted at the Sun or Moon

   Reads as a Solar Return or Lunar Return — framed as a snapshot for the year or month ahead rather than a run of dated events. Planet Returns for any other body don't have a predictive voice yet and fall back to the natal report.

3. Progression, targeted at Secondary

   Reads as Progressions — a day of ephemeris motion standing in for a year of life, the same secondary-progression time map used elsewhere in AstroWatch.

4. Directions, targeted at Solar Arc

   Reads as Solar arc directions.

5. Everything else

   Saved Event, Synastry, Composite, Davison and Harmonic rings don't have a predictive voice authored yet — the dialog quietly serves the natal report instead, even if one of those rings is active on the wheel.

How AstroWatch composes it

Three combo boxes sit above the chapter list. A report type selector appears once a moving ring is on the wheel (see above). Source picks which interpretation corpus to draw from, or All sources to blend every enabled one — and, new in v2.0.0, whichever source you land on here is the same one an exported PDF will use: picking a single source in Report Manager scopes the exported book to that source only, instead of the export always pulling from every enabled source regardless of what's selected on screen. By strength / By life area sets the section order — strength-ranked puts your chart's loudest placements first regardless of topic; by life area groups everything under its theme (career, relationships, and so on) and ranks within each group. Every report opens with a Chart Signature section — a computed summary independent of any corpus, so it's always present even before any interpretation text is matched.

Each section carries a strength score from 0–100, shown as a number and a thin progress bar — how prominent that placement or pattern is in this specific chart, not a fixed importance ranking. Where an authored friendly title exists for a placement, the report shows that evocative heading with the exact astrological term underneath for reference, rather than only the raw astrological label; conditional clauses that apply to your specific configuration (retrograde, applying vs separating, a particularly tight or wide orb) are appended under the main text as short add-on notes. New in v2.0.0, any dated event drawn from the Forecast Timeline now shows its authored interpretation text inline beneath the row too, right where the event itself is listed — see Predictive Reports for the timeline chapters this applies to.

Reordering, hiding and saving a layout

Drag a chapter into a new position or toggle one off and the change sits unsaved until you act on it — an unsaved-changes bar at the bottom of the dialog ("You have unsaved layout changes.") blocks the dialog from closing until you either apply it or choose Discard & Close. Two buttons commit a layout:

1. Apply To Current Profile

   Saves this exact chapter order, visibility and source as a custom layout for the profile you have open right now. A CUSTOM LAYOUT badge appears on the dialog whenever the profile you're viewing has one of these saved.

2. Apply To All

   Sets this layout as the new default for every profile that hasn't customized its own — an inline confirmation bar spells that out before it commits: "This becomes the default layout for every profile that hasn't customized its own. Profiles with a custom layout keep theirs. Apply now?" A GLOBAL DEFAULT badge marks a layout that's coming from this global setting rather than a per-profile override.

Reset opens a small flyout with two options — reset just the profile you're viewing back to whatever the global default currently is, or reset that global default itself back to AstroWatch's own built-in layout. Either way, a chapter that didn't exist in an older saved layout — a brand-new v2.0.0 chapter, for instance, on a layout you saved before this update — simply appears at its normal position the first time you open the dialog after upgrading, rather than staying hidden because an old layout never mentioned it.

Coverage gaps

An expander at the bottom of the dialog — Coverage gaps — lists any pattern your chart actually presents that no enabled interpretation section currently delineates. It's a transparency note, not an error: AstroWatch's corpus is deep but not infinite, and this is where you can see exactly what it hasn't voiced yet for your specific chart, rather than the report silently pretending every placement was covered.

One unmatched pattern key here — SIGN_ON_CUSP — the raw internal key for a placement the corpus hasn't voiced yet for this chart.

What's next
